Surrealism first appeared in the art world in Paris in the mid 1920s. Surrealist created imagery that was impossible in reality. The use of juxtapositioning of compositional elements allowed the imagination to be liberated and challenged logical thought. Surrealism was a concrete response to Dadaism which was an artistic movement that sprang up during WWl in Zurich.
The images on this page are of Greek born Eugenia Loli who now lives in California. Loli Didn’t begin to explore her art seriously until 2013. She is a film maker, illustrator and modern vintage collage artist. Like most collage artists, Loli is exploring a narrative or a reflection about a bigger topic through imagination and often humour. The surrealistic collage artist tried to create a dreamscape that is almost believable but feels uncomfortable. Another 21st century artist that also loves to explore and push the boundaries of collage is Ben Lewis.
Some surrealistic painters form this movement include Max Ernst and Salvador Dali.
